Dr. Corbin’s teaching interests and experience includes mineral processing, the structure and properties of engineering materials, physical metallurgy, materials characterization techniques (XRD, SEM, TEM) and materials and manufacturing. Professor Corbin’s research interests are in the field of advanced materials and processes. Topics of current activity include:

  • High temperature thermal analysis of advanced materials and processes;
  • Reactive and liquid phase sintering of dissimilar powder mixtures;
  • Advanced soldering and brazing for aerospace, automotive, and microelectronics applications;
  • High performance coatings using laser assisted powder deposition;
  • Ti and Ni-based Superalloy powder metallurgy;
  • Roll compaction of metal powders; and
  • Ti based shape memory metals.

Dr. Corbin has over 15 years experience conducting research in the above areas at both the fundamental and applied level. He has active projects with industrial partners in the automotive, aerospace and tool & die industries. Dr. Corbin had 4 years of industrial R&D experience and over 13 years experience as a Professor of Materials Engineering at the University of Waterloo prior to joining Dalhousie University in 2010.
